The History of SOLCO

 

SOLCO originates from Solco Biomedical, a specialized medical device manufacturer.
Founded in 1974 by Chairman Seogon Kim, the company has dedicated over 50 years exclusively to the development and production of medical devices. Today, SOLCO is a KOSDAQ-listed company with a strong foundation in three core areas.

First, it produces over 2,000 types of surgical instruments and is widely trusted by medical professionals.
Second, in the field of implants—used to connect bones—SOLCO applies its advanced titanium technology along with proprietary platinum expertise, incorporating platinum components into all its products.
Third, the company manufactures home healthcare devices, further strengthening its position in the medical industry.

 

Why Did SOLCO Enter the Mattress Industry?

In the early 1990s, as national health insurance expanded in Korea, hospitals experienced a surge in patient volume. Due to limited facilities, hospitals began focusing on faster patient recovery and earlier discharge.

Two key factors were identified for recovery:
Proper nutrition, and most importantly, quality sleep.

Medical professionals asked Chairman Kim, “How can we help patients achieve more comfortable and healthier sleep?”
This question led SOLCO to initiate research through its institute, composed of renowned professors and medical experts.

 


Combining Global Technology with Korean Tradition

SOLCO incorporated advanced technologies from Japan, including magnet therapy, negative ions, and electrostatic potential therapy.
For comfort and ventilation, materials such as latex and coconut palm fibers were used.
Additionally, underground water wave-blocking technology from Germany was adopted.

Importantly, Korea’s traditional Ondol heating system also became a key area of research.

Through extensive research, SOLCO developed the SR Heating System, an AI-based thermal technology.
It emits far-infrared rays in the 10–11 micrometer wavelength range, similar to the human body, helping relieve pain and promote deep sleep. This technology has been approved as a medical device for pain relief.

The SR Heating System supports the body in two ways:
